Description
English: The 'Gimli Glider'. In July 1983 this plane made an emergency both-engines-out landing when it ran out of fuel at cruise altitude enroute to Edmonton. The captain's glider experience was a positive factor in a successful landing with no injuries and minimal damage at Gimli, the nearest available landing area and a former RCAF airstrip which had been converted to a drag strip. This incident prompted the nickname 'Gimli Glider'.
