She is the 7th of the twenty-one Taras, Black Tara is the most approachable of the protective, wrathful Buddha emanations. She is called Tara Who Destroys all Enemies, and Tara who is Invicible. Black Tara is associated with compassion and enlightened activity. Tara in Tibetan Buddhism, is a female Bodhisattva. She is known as the "mother of liberation".
