A well-known source that has a reputation for neutral (non-biased) territorial control coverage may be used (thus, deemed reliable) for all edits.
A well-known source that does not have a reputation for neutral (non-biased) territorial control coverage, may be used (thus, deemed reliable) only for edits that are unfavorable to the side it typically prefers (or vice versa, favorable to the side it typically opposes).
A source that is not well-known (or that has proven inaccurate) cannot be used for any edit. This includes all maps (see item 2. next).
Copying from maps should be avoided.
Maps from mainstream media are approximate, and therefore unreliable.
Maps from amateur sources are unreliable. (On Wikipedia, they would violate WP:SPS and WP:CIRCULAR.)
The ISW's maps (provided among this file's list of sources) can be used when determining what land is controlled. If you wish to use another map, discuss it on the talk page and, if consensus is reached that it is useful and reliable, add the map to this file's list of sources and update this message.
