Summary

Description
English: Map of the Battle of Rathmines and Baggotrath 1649, Dublin, Ireland. Part of the English Civil War 1641-1652 between Parliamentarians and Royalists. The Royalist Army in Ireland was led by the Marquess of Ormonde and sought to attack Dublin which was then held by the Parliamentarians under the command of Colonel Jones. Ormonde marched with his troops from Kilkenny reaching Castleknock on 21st June. Ormonde's troops numbered some 28,000 and Jones's garrison some 5,000. Ormonde was defeated.
