Summary

Description
English: Known Unknowns of the NSA Surveillance Programs

Amie Stepanovich, U.S. Policy Manager and Global Policy Counsel, Access Now (Moderator)

Marcy Wheeler, Independent Journalist; Bart Gellman, Senior Fellow, The Century Foundation; Marietje Schaake, European Parliamentarian

The world has woken up to revelations about secret spying in the U.S. and around the world. However, for all of the information that has been revealed, it seems there still exist more questions than we have answers, and little remains known about many of the laws and authorities that provide a basis for government surveillance activities. Recent documents obtained by Edward Snowden and reported by journalists continue to provide pieces to the surveillance puzzle. In this session, leading minds recapped what we learned in the last nine months, and attempted to assemble these pieces into a complete picture.
