Summary

Description

English: The flag of the province of Ilo was created by the architect Óscar Vargas Méndez, under the pseudonym "Ilo-Peru", who participated in the contest called by Mayor Ernesto Herrera Becerra on March 3, 1992.

The artistic interpretation given by its creator is: "Leaning against the calm and rich sea of ILO, there is a firm and ardent horizon of progress with national colors: all with the speed of a wheel framed in the immense white of goodness and brotherhood of its people."

Respecting the artistic interpretation of the author, the municipality adds its own interpretation:

"In the upper half of the album, the colors red and white are those of the national bicolor. In the lower half of the disk, the blue stripes are the color of the sea and the white stripes interspersed, the color of the foams of the waves, both characteristic colors of a port. And the white background of the flag is symbolism of peace."
