1. This is the actual image, that was published in the reference.

2. This image clearly illustrates the proposed notation; without this image, the point is entirely lost.

P.S. I do not know who dug up this published image and posted it on Wikipedia. (It was not me; I was a bit surprised when I discovered it on Wikipedia.) However, loss of this image will mean loss of relevant information regarding the history of hexadecimal notation; therefore, it should be retained.
