Article | |
Portion used |
Whole photograph, as the pagoda is the sole focus of the image. |
Low resolution? |
442 x 664 pixels |
Purpose of use |
To illustrate the article on the pagoda shown in the picture, in particular to indicate the windows on the 3rd, 10th and 12th stories which open onto small chambers that contained important cultural and religious relics dating to the Western Xia (1038-1227) that were discovered in the ruins of the pagoda after it had been destroyed. |
Replaceable? |
The pagoda was illegally blown up in 1990, and so no new pictures of it can be taken. As the pagoda is situated in a remote location in the Helan Mountains, 10-15 km from the nearest road, and was virtually unknown before it was first surveyed in 1984 it is probable that no PD (pre-1961) photos of the pagoda exist. |
Other information |
Source does not provide any copyright or photographer information, but it is probable that it was taken when the pagoda was surveyed in 1984. The probable photographer is Lei Runze 雷潤澤, a well-known researcher of Western Xia pagodas. |
