Summary

Description

From ‘Friends of BRGS’, No. 29, April 2013, p.14, reproduced with the kind permission of the school’s alumni body. Front row L to R: Mrs Lonsdale, Mrs Freda Ebden, (Little) Miss Moore, (Big) Miss Moore, Miss Phyllis Irene Greenwood (Deputy Head), Mr William (Bill) Copley (Headteacher), Mr Dan Duthie, Mr Charlie Ebden, Mr Walter ('Billy Brag') Fielding and Mr Milton Ormerod. Second row: Miss Firth (later Mrs Collinson), Miss Hamer/Miss Barnes, Miss Reece, Miss Jean E. Macleroy, Mrs Culley, Miss Dodd, Mr McClean, Mr Trevor ('Larry') Parks, Mr Ralph Humpston, Mr Eric Ward and Mr Frank ('Gilbert') Harding. Third row: Mr Jack Cawthorne, Mrs Doreen Chedzoy, two mystery faces then Mr Alan Pell, Miss Doreen Newall (later Mrs Humpston) and Mr Jack Bridge. Back row: Mr Proctor and Mr Ralph ('Sammy Shut-eye') Collinson.

I was at the school 1954-58. My fondest memories attach to Mr Ward, who took a group of us, usually including Mr Collinson, birdwatching all over Lancashire, every Saturday, whatever the weather, all year round. My least fond memories attach to Mr Parks, a ruler-rapping, face-slapping history teacher, who left, in my time, to become a Labour parliamentary candidate (MP only later under Harold Wilson - see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Park).
