The BMW 1500 sedan was first seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1961. It was the first of a line of Hofmeister styled sedans which transformed the company's finances after sixteen years of struggle. Later versions of the model, which became known as the "New Class" BMW, appeared in due course with larger engines. 23,807 BMW 1500s are included in the total of 345,924 "New Class" BMWs.
