English: This map shows the approach taken by Union General William W. Averell to Moorefield where the Battle of Moorefield took place (slightly north of) on August 7, 1864.

Source This is a portion of a 1912 map created by Sifton, Praed & Co. that has been modified by TwoScarsUp. The entire map can be found in the Library of Congress map, and shows Virginia and Maryland. The information added about Averell's force is mostly from Averell's August 8, 1864, report. An additional source is Shenandoah Summer: The 1864 Valley Campaign, by Scott Patchan.
