This species was first discovered and named for the deposit at Autun, France. Year of Discovery: 1852! I must admit that I had myself never heard of this locality before, nor seen a specimen! I thought the label was wrong until I looke dit up and found this to be a legit locality of which i was ignorant. On the granite matrix is this most colorful druse of autnite crystals, an electric or bright lemon yellow. The gemmy crystals average about 1 mm across but there must be thousands of them here. I don’t think I have ever seen a better or brighter yellow in the species than this beautiful specimen! There are better autunites out there, sure, but how many from the TYPE LOCALITY have you seen? for me, the answer was zero... 8.9 x 5.4 x 1.5 cm
