Summary

Description

Auricularia americana Parmasto & I. Parmasto ex Audet, Boulet & Sirard

Image location: Egypt Valley Wildlife Area, Belmont Co., Ohio, USA

That’s what the name Auricularia auricula-judae means right? Ear ears of jews?

David Hull argues that species names are meaningless rigid designators – a species name points to a chunk of genealogical nexus and is meaningless beyond that – but I think all words have meanings, and I think “Jew Ears” is a bad name for this common edible and medicinal fungus.
