Deutsch: Der dänische Astronom August William Doberck (1852–1941) am Refraktor von Schloss Markree in der irischen Grafschaft Sligo. Dessen seinerzeit weltgrößtes Objektiv mit 33,8 cm (13,3 Zoll) Öffnung war 1831 vom Franzosen Robert-Aglaé Cauchoix (1776–1845) für Edward Joshua Cooper (1798–1863) hergestellt worden. Das benötigte Flintglas stammte vom Schweizer Pierre-Louis Guinand (1748–1824). Das 7,6 m (25 Fuß) lange Teleskop war in einem offenem Gebäude auf einer Pyramide aus schwarzem Marmor montiert. Image title | William A. Doberck (1852-1941), Danish astronomer. Doberck became the first director of the Hong Kong Observatory from its foundation in 1883 until 1907. Before this he worked at the observatory at Markree Castle, County Sligo, Ireland. Here, the telescope he is using is the 13-inch Cauchoix objective, on an equatorial mount. The telescope pier is a pyramid of black marble blocks (see C014/5294). |
