Assassinat de Sigebert Ier Grandes Chroniques de France, enluminées par Jean Fouquet, Tours, vers 1455-1460 Paris, BnF, département des Manuscrits, Français 6465, fol. 25 (Troisième Livre) Partage du royaume de Clotaire Ier entre ses quatre fils : Voulant usurper le pouvoir au détriment de ses frères, Chilpéric s'empare du trésor de son père et s'assure le soutien des grands du royaume. Ses frères, Sigebert, Gontran et Charibert, le surprennent à Paris et font valoir leurs droits. La scène se situe dans l'île de la Cité. Assassinat de Sigebert Ier (au premier plan) : Lors du siège de Tournai, ville dans laquelle Chilpéric et sa famille se sont réfugiés, un émissaire de Frédégonde transperce la gorge de Sigebert allongé sous sa tente.
