Summary

Description
English: Dr. Arthur Kornberg in his laboratory. Kornberg joined the Public Health Service in 1942 and was assigned to the National Institute of Health, Laboratory of Chemistry to work on nutrition research. In 1948 he created an enzyme and metabolic section in the Laboratory. The Laboratory of Chemistry became the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases in 1950 and Dr. Kornberg remained at the Institute until 1953. While at NIH, Dr. Kornberg initiated a series of investigations into nucleotide biochemistry. After leaving the National Institutes of Health, Arthur Kornberg was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology.
