Français : L'arrondissement historique de l'Île-d'Orléans, décrété en 1970, est un territoire à caractère rural couvrant la totalité de cette île, d'une longueur approximative de 34 km et d'une largeur maximale de 8 km.
Une crête centrale couverte en majeure partie de forêt relie les pointes formant ses extrémités. Son relief est marqué par une série de terrasses qui s'étagent depuis les rives. Le lotissement régulier, issu du régime seigneurial, rythme le paysage. Vue du ciel, l'île apparaît comme une succession de terres rectangulaires étroites et allongées, disposées de part et d'autre d'une ligne longitudinale, qui ont front sur le fleuve Saint-Laurent. Maisons anciennes, dépendances agricoles, résidences de villégiature, constructions contemporaines, noyaux villageois, anses, estran, boisés et falaises animent ce paysage qui porte la trace de plus de trois siècles d'histoire. |
