Summary

Description
Español: Imagen del Mar de Aral, en la que se aprecia su superficie actual, menos de la mitad de la que tenía hace cincuenta años.
English: Aral Sea from space
The Aral Sea has now shriveled to well under half of the area it covered fifty years ago. In this satellite photo from 2002, the Aral Sea's former bed can still be seen by the lighter-colored salt beds that the receding sea has left behind; the lighter the color, the more recent the retreat. The huge peninsula in the middle was once a small island.
