The brick building supports a water tank which existed to supply water via the grey device in front of it into the tanks of steam locomotives. The horizontal arm of the grey hydrant can swing over the line and has a flexible black hose attached which can be inserted into the water tanks or panniers of the steam loco. Those were the days ...
