This is because East Malaysia originally had its own separate tax regulations on imported vehicles. Reconditioned (grey import) cars outsold new cars by a significant margin in East Malaysia. Sales of new cars in East Malaysia during the 1960s and 70s were largely negligible. e) There is a discrepancy between the years 1980 and 1981.
