Deutsch: Das Gemälde bezieht sich thematisch gemeinsam mit dem Gegenstück (Kat.Nr. 86.4) auf ein Werk Montesquieus von 1725, „Le Temple de Gnide“. Danach schildert der Geliebte der Cephise einen gemeinsamen Spaziergang durch die Wälder von Idalia, wobei sie den schlafenden Amor entdecken, der jetzt in ihre Gewalt gerät. Bei der Darstellung handelt es sich um den ersten Teil einer Bildgeschichte, die von der Spontanität der Liebe handelt. Angelica Kauffmann schuf beide Gemälde für ihren wohl wichtigsten Auftraggeber, George Bowles Esq., im Jahre 1782 in Neapel.INSCHRIFT: Bez. oben links (wohl eigenhändig) auf dem Zwickelfeld mit Bleistift: "For George Bowles Esq."
