Description These "ammonia cookies" (which were tasty) perplexed us - I had never heard of cooking ammonia. I researched it at home and learned that "baking ammonia" was an interim step between the traditional stag's horn leavening and the baking powder of today. Funnily enough, I'd just first heard of stag's horn being used as leavening when local restaurateur Ron Zimmerman of The Herbfarm tweeted about his use of stag's horn for his 100-mile dinner. yfrog.com/h0y6mdtj
