Summary

Description
English: This image shows a sample of Amalia Tuff from an outcrop in the type area, near Amalia, New Mexico, US. The Amalia Tuff was erupted from the Questa caldera 25 million years ago. This outcrop is from the outflow sheet (outside the caldera) and is densely welded tuff. It was likely originally glassy but has devitrified. Phenocrysts of quartz and sanidine feldspar are visible in the sample.
