Summary

Description
English: Greek gods take human form and can often be recognised by attributes and animals. This fragment from a red-figure calyx crater shows a statue to the cult of Apollo in a temple. His bow reveals his role in disposing over life and death. To the right outside the temple we can see the god Apollo himself, playing his lyre in another role, as patron of the arts. This is one of the few ancient Greek representations of a building in “perspective” allowing the viewer to look inside. Pottery, made and found in Tarentum (Italy), c. 400-385 BC (inv. 2579)
Chr. (inv. 2579)
