English: Captain Alfred Maurice Toye receiving his Victoria Cross from King George V in 1918. Toye was one of only two people born in Aldershot to win the VC during the First World War. On 25th March 1918 he demonstrated outstanding gallantry at Eterpigny Ridge to maintain a position which otherwise would have been lost. He later rose to the rank of Brigadier.
