| Description |
English: Relief in 15th century English alabaster from the Archaeological Museum of Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz. It comes from the old Blood Hospital (Jerez); it could have been destined to be part of an altarpiece. It represents the Resurrection of Christ, in this case based on the tradition of the Gospel of St. Matthew, which is the only one that mentions sentries next to the tomb. In addition to this alabaster, two other specimens of the same origin are preserved in Jerez: one in the church of Santiago and the other in the convent of Espíritu Santo. Taking into account the low number of existing pieces in Andalusia, nine in total, this volume is indicative of Jerez's significant commercial relations with England. Procede del antiguo Hospital de la Sangre (Jerez); pudo estar destinado a formar parte de un retablo. Representa la Resurrección de Cristo, en este caso basada en la tradición del evangelio de San Mateo que es el único que menciona centinelas junto al sepulcro. Además de este alabastro se conservan en Jerez otros dos ejemplares de la misma procedencia: uno en la iglesia de Santiago y otro en el convento de Espíritu Santo. Teniendo en cuenta el escaso número de piezas existentes en Andalucía, nueve en total, este volumen es indicativo de las significativas relaciones comerciales de Jerez con Inglaterra. |
