Title
Veue du chasteau de Versailles (View of Versailles, garden facade)
Description
English: The garden facade of the Enveloppe of the Palace of Versailles is shown as completed around 1674 to the designs of Louis Le Vau. The facade was changed beginning around 1680, when the Hall of Mirrors was constructed. According to Hazlehurst (Gardens of Illusion, Vanderbilt University Press, 1980, p. 81) the design of the parterre d'eau shown in this print is likely a project that was never executed.
