Summary

Description

Acaster South Ings, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) near the villages of Acaster Malbis and Stillingfleet, about 6 km south of York, England. It was originally a traditionally farmed floodplain hay meadow, and is still maintained as such by Natural England, so as to conserve its wild flowers and breeding curlew. Being adjacent to the River Ouse, it is protected from river flooding by 2-metre high dykes.

It was photographed on 9 December 2019 in later afternoon sun, after a rainy summer and autumn, so the willows alongside the river were partially underwater, and there were lakes in the meadows.

Showing inundated osiers between the dyke and the river.
