Summary
[edit]Description |
A portrait-caricature of an Austro-Hungarian soldier (Magyar-Hungarian?); WWI postcard art. Ink(s) & other colours (coloured pencils?); drawn on a standard, printed Austro-Hungarian (partly multi-lingual) 'Feldpostkorrespondenzkarte.' post-card blank. Front is inscribed, in 2 separated lines, with i) Name? (the surname, if that's what is it, appears to be Magyar-Hungarian; uncertain if it is written "Hungarian-style", with the surname first) & ii) rank?/unit, along with what seems to be the artist's signature diagonally in the lower right quadrant; probably readable but not yet transcribed, somewhat indistinct due to blurring (blotting/absorption if the ink into the paper. Back with handwritten name (apparently of the artist, not the subject), possibly written in Hungarian style (surname before given names) & rank?/unit information added to the standard printed design & text; not yet transcribed. Exact date uncertain; World War I era. More information would be appreciated; feel free to transcribe the inscriptions, if you can read them better than I can. Wittig collection, item 42; private collection, fam. Wittig et cie. Created during WWI, therefore obviously pre-1923; uploaded here to avoid Commons' "dual jurisdiction" PD rule. Please do not transfer to WMC unless you can confirm the item's PD-status as per Commons' requirements. ORIGINAL SOURCE VERSION OF FILE, please do not overwrite!
