Summary
| Description | A better view of the Tokyo Sky Tree, a large transmission tower in the middle of TOkyo, Japan, and currently the second tallest tower in the world. . The tower is the primary television and radio broadcast site for the Kantō region. The Tokyo Skytree was completed on 29 February 2012, with the tower opening to the public on 22 May 2012. The construction of this new tower was necessitated because the older Tokyo Tower could no longer give complete digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage due to large number of high-rise buildings which had sprung up all around it. This new Tokyo Skytree tower is the centre piece of a large commercial development funded by the Tobu Railway (which owns the complex) and a group of six terrestrial broadcasters headed by NHK (Japan's national news broadcaster). Tokyo's metro trains stop at the adjacent Tokyo Skytree Station and nearby Oshiage Station. The complex is 7 km north-east of Tokyo Station. I spotted the towerl from several spots in Tokyo but did not actually visit it, although it was recommended by ViaHero, my online guide, for want of time. (Tokyo, Japan, Apr/ May 2019) | |||
