va ordet karikatyr härledes af det italienska :!>caricare» =belasta och öfverdrifva. Härmed besläktadt är det franska ordet»charge*, hvilket användes vid sidan af »caricature». Egendomligtnog har således det oftast använda ordet för skämtbild, karika-tyr, kommit från ett land, där man är ovanligt svag inomdenna konstart. Under senare hälften af 1500-talet tillkom den i bild 44 åter-gifna teckningen af SoFONISBA Anguisciola (1535—1626). Kvinn-liga skämttecknare förekomma så godt som aldrig i konsthistorien.Damerna ha i alla tider varit alltför bundna af det konventionella,och ej ens det receptiva sinnet för humor tyckes pryda dettakön, på hvilket naturen eljest slösat sä mycket. SofonisbaAnguisciola, den på sin tid berömda porträttmälarinnan, som själfskulle bli mycket gammal, kallar sin skämtbild »La vecchia ri-bambita muove riso alla fanciuUetta» — gumman, som blifvit barnpå nytt, väcker skratt hos den unga flickan —, hvilken med ett 46.
