DescriptionAT&T Alascom Building in Fairbanks Alaska.JPG
English: The AT&T Alascom building at 200 Gaffney Road in Fairbanks, Alaska. The building was constructed for the Alaska Communications System, a military entity which also provided civilian communcations in Alaska through the 1960s, before RCA purchased the system and started Alascom. The ACS name and insignia is etched into the building beyond the right edge of the photo. The immediate surrounding area was originally part of Fort Wainwright; the main gate of Wainwright, previously directly to the east of the camera location, is now further to the east following the construction of the federal building and Richardson and Steese expressways.
This is a retouched picture, which means that it has been digitally altered from its original version. Modifications: crop, sharpen, adjust levels, color balance.
The original will be available whenever I get around to resurrecting my Flickr account
