Summary

Description
English: Cutaway drawing of the AB5-K8 gyro. The ST-124 carried three of these gyros. Note the three mutually orthogonal axes that characterize the gyro's performance: spin (10), input (14) and output (6). The gyro is only sensitive to rotations around the input axis, and responds by precessing around the output axis. In the figure, the gyro has experienced some input rotation about axis 14, so the rotor has precessed through the angle 11, to point along direction 12. The angle 11 is proportional to the magnitude of the input rotation about 14.
