English: A68 near Great Swinburne For much of its course through Northumberland, the A68 Darlington to Scotland road follows the course of Dere Street Dere_Street , the Roman Road which linked York and Scotland. At the crest of the hill, the A68 diverges from the straight alignment of the Roman Road round the notorious Barrasford Bends.
