China Airlines Flight 006 exceeded its maximum speed for an extended dive following improper handling of a flameout in engine number 4. The aircraft lost most of its left horizontal stabilizer, a piece of the right, the landing gear doors were ripped free, the landing gear itself was forced into the down position, and the wingtips were bent to a position about two inches higher than before. The 747SP was repaired and was still flying, with different owners, as recently as 2005.
