Description
English: AWM caption : England, Lincolnshire, Waddington. The emblem on M Mother, a Lancaster aircraft PO-M ED547 belonging to 467 Squadron RAAF of Bomber Command based at RAF Station Waddington. This aircraft was originally U Uncle, hence the pawnshop or "uncles" sign. Quite appropriate is the note "we take anything" for the captain, 405853 Pilot Officer J H Whiting, Adelaide, SA, is noted for his ability to return to base in spite of damage to aircraft from flak or night fighter combat. The forty bombs represent raids over enemy territory, and the inverted swastika, a night fighter which the crew shot down. "Under new management" describes the change from U to M, or from 'U to Me as it is worded.
