Blazon

  • Shield: Azure, a copper-colored mullet fimbriated Or charged with a plate bearing a Suhuara cactus growing from a patch of ground Vert.
  • Crest: That for the regiments and separate battalions of the U.S. Army Reserve: From a wreath Or and Azure, the Lexington Minute Man Proper. The statue of the Minute Man, Captain John Parker (H.H. Kitson, sculptor), stands on the common in Lexington, Massachusetts.
  • Motto: STEADFAST.

Symbolism

  • Shield:
  1. The shield is blue for Infantry.
  2. The State flag of Arizona, original area of the regiment, bears a copper star.
  3. The green Suhuara cactus, much in evidence in Arizona, is the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 103d Division, the unit's former assignment.
  • Crest: The crest is that of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Background

  1. The coat of arms was originally approved for the 409th Regiment Infantry, Organized Reserves on 1925-08-20.
  2. It was amended to withdraw "Organized Reserves" from the designation and to delete the Organized Reserves' crest from the coat of arms for the 409th Infantry Regiment on 1959-07-29.
  3. On 1970-06-25 it was amended to reinstate the crest of the U.S. Army Reserve and revise the symbolism for 409th Infantry Regiment.
  4. The coat of arms was redesignated for the 409th Regiment on 1999-06-17.
