English: 330-PS-8339 (USN 709831): Dr. John P. Hagen, Director of the Earth’s Satellite Project at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C., holds a scale model of the three-stage satellite launching vehicle. Partially shown on Dr. Hagen’s left is a full scale model of the scientific Earth satellite which will be launched by U.S. Navy scientists during the International Geophyiscal Year. The project is being sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences and the National Science Foundation as part of the U.S. Program for participation in the International Geophysical Year.
