English: Carved Doors for the Cornhill Insurance Group’s London Headquarters, 32 Cornhill, London EC3. 1938. Cornhill is a thriving commercial thoroughfare in the financial centre of London. An ornate pair of mahogany doors. Divided into eight deeply carved panels, each one depicts a scene from the long history of Cornhill in chronological order left to right from top to bottom as follows:- the founding of St. Peter’s-upon-Cornhill; the penance of Eleanor Duchess of Gloucester; the Bishop of London’s compulsion of oven dues; Cornhill Market; an Elizabethan visiting his tailor in Birchin Lane; an 18th century scene in Pope’s Head Tavern; Garraway’s Coffee House; the Brontë sisters at publishers Smith, Elder and Co. https://www.scribd.com/doc/17256374/Walter-Gilbert-Main-Inventory https://archive.org/details/WalterGilbert
