Description

THE SERVICE OF AIR VICE-MARSHAL GERARD COMBE IN THE ROYAL AIR FORCE, 1923-1946.
Mountain gun of the Iraqi Army column, 'Dicol', shelling Shirwan-A-Mazin from a hillside at Kani-Ling during the Barzan operations.
FURTHER INFORMATION: Sheik Ahmad of Barzan led a rebellion in Kurdistan, North-eastern Iraq, against the Iraqi government in 1931-1932. The Iraqi Army advanced into the Barzan area in March 1932, but required intensive support from the RAF before the territory was successfully occupied. Sheikh Ahmad surrendered on 21 June to Turkish authorities on the Turkey-Iraq border and made his submission to the Iraqi government.

Comment : This appears to be a QF 3.7 inch Mountain Howitzer without the usual gunshield.
