English: View outside the west entrance of the Oak Mall, Greenock, looking across Westburn Street, to shop building at its corner with West Blackhall Street. In 1834, the author John Galt took a house sited here, and for his last years lived in it with his wife and sister. Close-up inset [to lower left] shows detail of plaque stating "Here John Galt dwelt at his death 11th April 1839", which is fixed on a white panel to the right of the shop window. |
