Summary
| Description |
English: The so-called St. Andrew's Triptych (Andreas-Triptychon) in the treasury of Trier Cathedral, Germany. The triptych which served as a portable altar has been ascribed to Godefroid of Huy, a 12th-century goldsmith from Huy (near Liège). The champlévé enamels on the side panels are Mosan and date from around 1160. The figure of St. Andrew was added or replaced in 1605. It is not clear whether the tryptich is dedicated to St. Andrew the Apostle or to an alleged early bishop of Trier (of the 3rd century?) named Andreas or Auctor. |
