English: View of the reliquary chest of Saint Servatius on the choir steps of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht, Netherlands. The 12th-century shrine is exhibited here from morning until evening during the ten days of the 2018 Heiligdomsvaart ("Relics Pilgrimage"). It is constantly escorted by 2 or 4 members of the Broederschap van Sint Servaas (Confraternity of Saint Servatius).
The history of the seven-yearly Maastricht Heiligdomsvaart goes back to the Middle Ages. The first 'modern' version of this catholic pilgrimage took place in 1874. The 2018 Heiligdomsvaart was the 55th modern edition.
