The processional litter is used for carrying the 12th-century reliquary chest of Saint Servatius through the streets of Maastricht in the two processions during the 2018 Heiligdomsvaart ("Relics Pilgrimage").
The history of the seven-yearly Maastricht Heiligdomsvaart goes back to the Middle Ages. The first 'modern' version of this ten-day catholic pilgrimage took place in 1874. The 2018 Heiligdomsvaart was the 55th modern edition. |
