Cantharellus altipes Buyck & V. Hofst. Image location: Big Thicket, Polk Co., Texas, USA The spore print on these was creamy. Spores were ~ 9.0-11.1 X 4.8-5.3 microns elongate to cylindric and smooth. Q(range) = 1.84-2.20 While I’m still trying to figure out how to put a good name on all the new Cantharellus species in this area, C. altipes is probably as close as one can get without DNA. The long stipe in relation to the cap width and the slightly longer spores(vs C. tenuithrix) were the critical features for me.
