Summary

Description
English: This group, which departed for South Africa on the Medic on November 2nd, 1899 is part of the South Australian Mounted Rifles which comprised the first two contingents sent off to the South African war. The men, all wearing their slouch hats are seated in tiers. [On back of photograph] 'South African War / 1899-1902 / First South Australian Contingent / see Chronicle illustrations November 4th 1899'.
