Description1947 Soap Box Derby World Champion Kenneth Holmboe.jpg
English: A Soap Box Derby racer, piloted in 1947 to the All-American World Championship by Kenneth Holmboe, 14, of Charleston, West Virginia. Holmboe won among 134 boys, setting times in the 26.7 second mark to do it. Constructed in laminated wood and fitted with an aerodynamic windscreen, the car was designed to fit Kenny's tall stature, his back and shoulders filling the cockpit cavity snugly. At the awards ceremony that evening he was also awarded Best Design and Best Brakes. Illustration by Bill Wrigley
