Summary

Description

Introduced in 1928, Plymouth was Chryslers lowest priced car, Dodge was next, then Desoto and Chrysler was top of the line. It was built as an inexpensive family vehicle to compete with Ford and Chevy. Plymouth entered a new car in 1935, losing that boxy look and getting a little streamlined. Two models were available; The base PJ Business was available in 2 door Coupe, 2 door Sedan, 2 door Business Coupe, 2 and 4 door Business Sedans (flat back style without a trunk). The upmarket PJ Deluxe (chrome trim of 3 chromed bars with 5 circles behind it), in Convertible, 2 door Coupe, 2 and 4 door Sedan (flat back styling), 2 and 4 door Touring Sedans (trunk back). A long wheelbase Sedan was also available. These Coupe Utilitys were built in Australia. Ford Australia was the first company to produce a coupe utility as a result of a 1932 letter from the wife of a farmer in Victoria, Australia asking for “a vehicle to go to church in on a Sunday and which can carry our pigs to market on Mondays”.

Engine; 77hp 201 cu in flathead 6 cyl.
