Summary
| Description | Hiking/Climbing Mount Ritter on the Inyo National Forest, Ansel Adams Wilderness, Aug. 28, 2017. Left Owen's Chute at 0945. Glissading is an option. Standing glissade was used. Slight sun cups available to prevent sliding. Met teammate at place we put on spikes. Decided to explore and went left instead of right at bottom of SE Glacier. Bad choice. Very steep snow fields. Ran into steep rock faces. Tons of water sources for filtering. 1200-1600. Returned back to rock fields near edge and followed until trail markers showed the way. Directly below pinnacle is water stream leading to exit and entrance trail. Follow water down to canyon floor. Temps in 50s. No wind. (USDA photo by Paul Wade) |
