Description
English: The Passion Beam is a piece from the permanent collection of the National Museum of Art of Catalonia whose place of origin is unknown. It could have been part of a canopy (like those that held the table in the Baldaquí de Tost) or it could have been a transverse beam (like the one in the apse of Toses). It contains six episodes of the Passion of Christ and the visit of the Marys to the Sepulchre, which alludes to the Resurrection. One of the most outstanding is that of the Plan on the deceased Christ, a great example of the Byzantine influence that characterizes part of the art of the 1200s. The very minute and detailed invoice indicates that it is the work of a miniaturist, closely related to the ·illustration of the Liber Feudorum Maior (Archive of the Crown of Aragon) and with some examples of Castilian miniatures.
